Influences
There are many types of social media for example: twitter, facebook, and snapchat. I tend to use instagram. If you were to check who I was following you would end up scrolling down a big list of artist pages. Being able to admire other people's work of arts gives me a feeling of inspiration and motivates me to work on my artistic abilities. When I’m in a rut artistically I find myself scrolling through other art pages on instagram to get some ideas or new techniques to try out. Personally social media has only influenced me in positive way. It allows me to communicate with my family in Mexico and see what there up to. Being that they are in a different county and the time zones are different calling isn't always an option since it cost extra. But through things like facebook it's like I might as well be texting them. It also allows me to keep up with fellow artist and to get my own artwork out there for people to see By surrounding my social media with art it has helped to keep me motivated in my artistic career goals. But nothing is perfect and how you use social media can definitely affect the world around you and how you see it. Most of us always have our phone. We use it for research, communication, and entertainment. Because of this what is on our social media can greatly affect our outlook on life. If all over our feed we have things that make us unhappy and images of things that make us insecure more than likely we won't be happy people because we have all these negative feelings at the tip of our fingers. But if we surround ourselves with positive things and people. Maybe instead our feed consist of dreams and aspirations we have it can act as a motivator to push us to keep going to get where we want to go and who want to be. Lets not forget though we can’t put all this weight on the shoulders of an app. When I first started to get healthy I followed a whole bunch of fitness pages. These photos consisted of athletically built women, healthy food ideas, and motivational fitness quotes. I saw it as a good motivator so my mind wouldn’t forget what I are working for. Yet these images can as easily be taken the wrong way. Say I’m scrolling down my feed and see an image of a healthy looking girl. At that moment I have two different thoughts that can go into my head one being “I’ll never look that” which could actually result in me not even trying to workout because now I feel my goal is unattainable since I got caught up in my insecurities.I could also choose to look at it and think “wow she seems healthy if she can do so can I” and now it can act as a motivator for me to get my butt into gear. Even though the image never changed, my perspective sure did. I believe that social media is as big of an influencer as we allow it to be. Personally, daily I tend to think of the quote “life is 10% of what happens to you and 90% of how you react to it”.
